Ginger is a spice with a very distinctive flavor and is widely used in the Eastern cuisine.

Ginger comes from the root of the Zingiber officinale, originated from Asia.

The ginger plant grows well in most tropical regions and is exported from Fiji, India, Jamaica, Nigeria and China.

Ginger is the bottom of the trunk and the rhizome of the plant. The rhizome is like a thick wooden hand, when peeled you get fresh, yellow ginger. The use of  ginger has a characteristic, warm, sharp and fresh-spicy flavor. When you add ginger in baked or slow cooked dishes, it will give the dish a milder, warmer flavor. This flavor is also very popular in tea.

The peeled ginger root can also be dried and ground into a powder. Dried ginger powder has a soft, spicy taste and can be used in combination with other spices such as cinnamon, cloves, pepper and curry. You can buy ginger in all sorts of other variants, such as ginger balls, ginger oil, candied ginger and ginger capsules.
